First Run

Ten minutes from zero to a first result. You need a noisy clip and Premiere Pro with the plugin and panel installed.

Step 1. Put the effect on a clip

Drag Noise Eraze from Effects (the Mxvd folder) onto a clip. The effect's rows will appear in Effect Controls — do not be alarmed by how many there are: soon there will be ten.

Step 2. Turn on Simple

In the panel header, press the mode button and choose Simple. The same mode can be selected with the Controls popup in the first row of Effect Controls.

What happens:

  • Effect Controls keeps ten control rows and two headers instead of more than a hundred;
  • the panel keeps a single slot, the Denoise slider and the preset chips;
  • the picture does not change: Simple and Advanced are two views of the same settings, not two different effects.

Step 3. Choose an algorithm

The first slot (Algorithm 1) offers six algorithms. For your first run, pick HQDN3D — it is fast and predictable. Once you know the landscape, choose by situation: decision tree.

Step 4. The Denoise slider

The Denoise slider is the main one: how much denoising to apply to luma. Start in the middle and move to the right until the noise is gone; as soon as the picture starts to smear — back off one or two steps.

Next to it sits Chroma — the same slider, but for color noise (colored speckles and rainbow banding). If there is no color noise, leave it alone. Balance — the trade-off between cleaning "within the frame" and cleaning "across neighboring frames"; more on that in the workflow guide.

Strength 1 (in the panel — the percentage next to the slider) scales everything at once without changing the algorithm's settings: 100% — as configured, 50% — twice as soft.

Step 5. Press Play

Start playback. If the timeline stutters — turn on Draft in the panel header (draft render) and watch how the motion behaves. Details: "Preview and Quality".

If you see ghosting on motion — turn on Enable in the Motion Compensation group and press Analyze Motion. What that is and why — "Motion Compensation".

Step 6. Save a preset

If you like the result — save it as a preset: the + button in the panel. Presets on the Project tab live inside the project, on the Global tab — as separate files, available in any project and on another machine. The 1–0 hotkeys apply the preset from the visible tab.

  • Algorithms guide — the difference between the six algorithms and when to use which one.
  • FAQ — if the result is not the one you expected.
